John Smith's 2nd Voyage

July 24 - September 7, 1608

The second portion of Smith's 1608 voyage brings the shallop swiftly to the Susquehanna flats where Smith explores the Susquehanna, Sassafras, Northeast and Elk rivers where he encounters the Massawomeck, Tockwogh and Susquehannock Indians.  The expedition next heads south to map the Patuxent and Rappahannock Rivers before returning to Jamestown on September 7.  Click on the map to the left to zoom in and see the detailed route of Smith's second voyage.
