Sultana Projects' John Smith Trail
Expeditions program is a great way to get your students out onto the
waters of the Chesapeake Bay and experience America's first National
Historic Water Trail - the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National
Historic Trail. The program utilizes a traveling fleet of kayaks and
canoes that is brought to a waterway near your school, where your
students then embark on a 3 to 5 hour field exploration. Overseen by
Sultana Projects highly skilled staff, the John Smith Trail Expeditions
program encourages students to examine the health of the
Chesapeake by comparing and contrasting the modern Bay to the Chesapeake
that was explored by Captain John Smith in 1608. Activities include
paddling, water quality sampling, shoreline and marsh exploration and
visiting sites of importance to local Native American communities. The
Expeditions program can accommodate school groups of up to 20 students,
sixth grade and older.
